Anyone who actually listens to sitar playing will know soon enough that, whilst beautifully recorded, these are the efforts of an intermediate level player, and are not to be compared with those of the true masters of the instrument. Pleasant enough for dinner parties but not enough content for serious listeners. This is World Music Marketing Inc. leveraging a pretty face on her father's reputation. I'm sure if she works hard she has the potential to perhaps become a great player eventually.

Hope that doesn't sound churlish, but that's my impression.

Addendum:

Whoa, given the comments, etc, I seem to be treading on some corns here. I see the lady has some serious fans.

Cool, I will check out her later work. But, I stand by my review of the item in question. This particular album would not have been made if she had not had the looks and the connections. I'm glad to hear that she has fulfilled her original promise. But, as a lover of serious classical sitar music I am just keen to see that we don't see a watered down for westerners brand emerging. I feel the same when I see Western classical music chopped up and re-packaged for populist audiences. Some might see that as snobbery but I see it more as a battle against mediocrity and as a stand for depth over surface.
